30 Minutes Before: Guests Arrive
Guests will generally start arriving around 20 to 30 minutes before your wedding ceremony begins.
This gives everyone plenty of time to find the ceremony location, say hello and take their seats before things get started.
During this time, your celebrant, photographer and other key suppliers will also be getting into position and making sure everything is ready.
The Wedding Party Arrives
Before the ceremony begins, both partners and the wedding party will arrive and get ready for the processional.
If you’re having a wedding planner or coordinator, they’ll make sure everyone is in the right place, guests are seated and your celebrant and suppliers are ready before giving the go-ahead to begin.
The Processional
It’s time to walk down the aisle!
Your processional can look however you want it to. You might have your wedding party enter first, walk with a parent or loved one, walk together as a couple or make your entrance solo.
This is also where your ceremony music comes in, whether you choose live music or a favourite song.
Welcome and Introduction
Once everyone is in place, your celebrant will officially begin the wedding ceremony.
They’ll usually welcome your guests, introduce the ceremony and share a little about you as a couple.
Depending on the style of ceremony you choose, this may be short and relaxed or include a longer story about your relationship.
Readings and Personal Touches
If you’re including readings, poems, cultural traditions or other personal elements, they will usually happen before the vows.

The Vows
Next come the vows.
You can write your own personal vows, use traditional wording or combine the two. Your celebrant will help guide you through any legal wording that needs to be included.

Ring Exchange
After the vows, you’ll usually exchange wedding rings.

The First Kiss
The moment everyone has been waiting for.
Once the legal parts of the ceremony are complete, your celebrant will officially announce you as married and it’s time for your first kiss.
Your photographer will be ready to capture the moment, so take your time and enjoy it!
Signing the Marriage Certificates
You’ll then sign your marriage certificates with your witnesses.
This usually only takes a few minutes and is often accompanied by music while your guests watch and celebrate.
The Recessional
You’re officially married!
The recessional is when you make your way back down the aisle together as newlyweds, usually followed by your wedding party.
From here, guests may move into post-ceremony drinks while you take family and wedding party photos.
